I got down and friendly with a buch of chavvy young 'uns on Saturday. My 205 is being fettled by the son of Peugeot Dealer DP who drinks in my local boozer and both compete in rallies with nicely prepped 106s
I turned up to see progress on Saturday morning and there was a little hungover crew with some 5 106s and a couple of Saxos all Halfords up...
Gawd. I was in the RS, so you can imagine the conversation.
Wikkid car, mate blah blah blah. But, to be fair, most of them were nice lads who were incensed at the fact that Porsche experimented with their customers on 996 PCCBs. Wrong, innit, know wot I meen?
Checked out my car in the workshop with the (sensible) lad and he is doing a great job. Removing everything, brushing it down re-painting and fettling and re-fitting. And I just pay for the parts. Brilliant!
I look at his P&J, a rally prepped but road legal 106 Rallye. It is fantastic. He then urges me to look at his mate's car, a silver grey 106 with OZ rims (and blacked out glass
). I check the tyres, 888s, and it seems to sit quite square and hoggy. He lifts the bonnet. A work of art. Throttle bodies, hand made manifold etc etc. A 'homemade Longman' . The little 1.6 gives 204bhp. And it weighs 877kgs, wet. Hmmm, when it revs it has that something that tells you it is pukka, and I am mildly impressed as he has also put 306 GTi/6 brakes on it and Bilstein dampers. He is only 21 and done it all himself.
I then saw him drive it up the road and I thought we might not be seeing too much of him in te future. It was DIRE! Clearly too fast into a bend, brake lights ablaze mid corner and finishes off on the wrong side of the road..... Gawd.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for the little fooker and avoid him.
