what's wrong with:
pre washing the car with a hose/jet lance to wash off the grit/ krud
then washing it with several buckets of shampoo with a lambswool mit
a soft brush for the lowers
a wheel brush for the alloys
and then rinsing it with a hose/jet lance?

I wouldn't use the brush, just use another designated washmitt. Apart from that your ok.

what tips have you got to remove bugs?

- i use a towel soaked in Turtle wax heavy duty car wash/warm water and leave it on for 10 minutes then wash as normal, any really heavy fouling i have a special sponge with a type of fishnet covering

The warm towel trick works ok.

Also you can let R222 Total Auto Wash soak in for a few minutes and then wash as normal.

For heavier soiling I Zaino Z-18 Clay System the car.
