Independent Porsche warranty

Boy Racer
Tech 9, in conjunction with the largest motoring organisation in the UK, have developed a mechanical breakdown insurance for Porsche models.

The product is aimed at owners of vehicles over 2 years old, that are not eligible for the Porsche extended warranty (due to non-standard products fitted) or would prefer their chosen independent specialist to carry out the servicing and repairs.

Branded as the TECHART MBI, an annual policy can be purchased to cover mechanical breakdown.
911 and Cayenne models cost £1295 pa, Boxster and Cayman models cost £1095 pa.

One of the key aspects of this policy, unlike the Porsche extended warranty is that modifications carried out by reputable tuners* are covered.

The procedure to initiate a policy starts with a mechanical inspection at Tech 9 in Liverpool, where the vehicle is inspected to ensure its present mechanical condition is acceptable. The cost of the inspection is included in the policy cost.

If anyone would like any further details, please do not hesitate to contact Phil Hindley 0151 4255 911, or email ph@tech9.ms

* Any TECHART conversions automatically covered, other tuners products and conversions will be considered for each individual application.

I must admit, I nearly feel of my chair when I received the reminder from my OPC about the extended warranty for my soon to be 2 years old 997RS. Porsche really are taking the piss with this and its good to see independents like Phil making a business opportunity from a manufacturer misjudging the market.

However, like many on here i suspect with multiple cars in the family, the total cost of our warranties extensions this year is going to be over £5k and at that sort of money, I'm happy to underwrite the risk myself. If the engine on the RS goes pop, yes, I would have gambled and lost but I imagine I would have a good case to argue with Porsche UK for a goodwill gesture.

Phil does this only cover 'break down' or any faults that develop with a vehicle?

Debating whether I want to warranty they Ruf Cayenne, although obviously it would also depend on whether you would cover it.

Dan, download the 'key facts' document on the first post, this gives you an idea of the cover, it is a mechanical breakdown insurance product, not just 'break downs'

yes, we would cover a RUF modified cayene, as long as we have confirmation of the work from RUF (or copies of invoices) and it would ned to undergo a pre-MBI inspection at our workshops in Liverpool

Phil,

Glenn says it is about time someone did this, but people already do. How does your warranty compare to the others listed here?:

Johnny,

As far as I understand, the Hartech/Sportsandclassic are maintenance plans, where you are buying into the individual company for the repair and maintenance. With these plans, any claims will be dealt with by them directly, so as long as they have a stable financial platform, they will rectify the faults that are covered.
Spec cars malton is a policy that John underwrites for all the cars he sells, I think he is fairly unique in this aspect, as most dealers will buy in a warranty that they need to sell their vehicles. These will not be manufacturer specific, but bought as an 'off the shelf' solution to protect their obligations to sell vehicles fit for the purpose.
911 virgin, Spec cars, RSJ have highlighted their policies as recognised experts and dealers of quality Porsche cars and have good client retention.

I believe our product is unique at present, as the only stand-alone product that can be purchased independently, and not tied to a particular service centre for service or repair work.
The big positive for clients is the fact that we allow non-standard modifications, and not tied to the OPC for servicing...

We will see how this progresses, we offer dissatisfied OPC clients an alternative for vehicles over 2 years old, that have non-standard modifications and opting out of the OPC servicing network.
