Garage Flooring ??

Chaps,

I want to put down some good garage flooring to (a) keep the dust down, and (b) so I'm not stepping dust/crap into the car everytime I get in it.

Can anyone recommend any solutions/options ?

I'm not that keen on just painting the floor with garage floor paint as this comes up over time, and will look shite in 5 mins!

Thanks in advance :)

You've seen tha website about garage porn ? or whatever its called. they seem to favour a ceramic tile, which is easy to keep clean and doesn't kick up dust !

doesn't look half bad either imo.

Tiles look nice Dave, but its a right faff getting them fitted/laid etc

I was hoping I could source some easy to fit type kit that I could just lay Myself and get it sorted this week

Someone mentioned plastic garage floor tile kits that interlock and can be installed easily/quickly, does anyone know anything about these ?

I am sure there are some gypo's who can tarmac that for next to nothing :finger

I thought you were getting a secret underground bunker built ? a la Blofeld style

I would imagine the plastic floor covering solution relies on a VERY level and even floor surface , so you will need to use self levelling floor compound on that floor of yours before you begin, Steve. If you do need a hand, you know where I am (Obviously, I don't have the extensive DIY tools you do but I do have a hammer, if that helps)

James.

I'm liking the look of that Action Flooring stuff. Might come in handy when I have to redo my garage next year.

I'm using the intelocking tiles at my new place

Cosco wholesale had them on offer a month or so back at £1 per tile - pretty good value solution at that price

There are industrial paints for concrete, If they are OK in Factories they will be OK in a garage & wont peel up, thats always assuming the concrete dosent have a powdery surface.

If you apply other finishes check the thickness before you lay it, even an increse of a few mm can cock up door openings

Steve

Seal the floor first with some Uni-Bond PVA glue and water mixed 50/50

Stops the dust a treat and is a better surface for paints nad things to bond to

We just did a workshop floor (10,000sq ft) at work here with floor paint

Got it through a guy on Ebay (paint supplies) and £150 worth did the entire area ! - used a sealer first after his advice as he reckoned it halves the ammount of paint required - After seeing it done I think he's right

Applied with a roller its really quick and easy to do

Also he recomended doing nothing until the concerete has had at least 6 months to cure fully or peeling would be an issue in the future.

If the concretes Green (not fully cured) Sika sealantsw can be used http://www.sika.co.uk/uk-constr-flooring-lining-2.htm

steve some good ideas,

however quick cheap and easy done this weekend, suggest you buy some either some vinyl kitchen/bathroom rolls, or laminate flooring slats.

Quick and esay, if thats what you want.

Or also carpet it with retail low pile carpet, which you glue to the floor, very hard wearing, and so cheap, a 600sq ft garage would cost you £1000 fitted inc the glue, and mega easy to clean, or hover

Those interlocking tiles are pretty cool.... but beware... You can make a right mess of them if you accelerate or brake a bit hard on em..Literally pull the rug from under you so to speak.

A couple of years ago after a mechanical problem forced me out of a race I stormed back to the race truck awning (not in the best of moods) and screeched the car to a halt on these tiles... was very messy and worse still I felt like a dick having to put it all back together! :wall

I used some floor paint on my new garage a while ago, went down onto a cement floor... Looked great but gets dirty grimey very easy, I'm sure there is some better stuff out there that gives a rubbery type finish
