Car Magazine: M3 ennui

I hadn't thought about it before, but maybe the article has just made a good point.
Have they turned the M3 into what used to be an M5?

This constant trend of bigger and heavier means it needs more power, but may not be much better.

And it looks quite unappealing to me in the picture.

Wow, my GT3 weighs in at 'only' 1370kg with 1/3 tank of fuel... plus 400+ horsies... the M3 needs to go on a diet!

Why does everyone enjoy having a pop M3's so much?

Don't get me wrong I couldn't less bothered but its a definate trend :)

I love M3's, the BMW design, the build, the spec but.....and it's a big but they are getting too big, Stuart hit the nail on the head with his current M3 = previous M5 analogy. Such a shame :(

I can't say I'm enamoured with the new M3 either, but that guy Ben Whitworth has done himself no favours by having a beard now has he ?

James.

M3s are great cars with one of the world's best drivetrains, but the added weight means consumables will be even more expensive, and copious electronics required to attempt to reign in the physics of moving mass...

the cost of consumables on a 1400kg GT3 are bad enough... they can only get worse on a 1600+kg M3... :(
