Cambridge Autogleam: BMW E30 M3 Sport Evo. 33hrs detailing

Evening. This job was completed last week.. a week that saw a total of 65hrs back breaking hard work on 3 different cars :)

This particular car took 33hrs over 3 days and was done at Munich Legends BMW specialists who now have me to carry out detailing work on their higher end stuff. Great guys and they carry out some wonderful restoration. This one however was a completely original UK Sport Evo which needed a fair bit of work.

The car had been sat in storage since 2001 so wasn't really dirty but lots of dust and the paint was looking rather tired. Its a Sport Evo (Evo3) and had covered 51000 miles (original UK car) and was all original and never converted for track or anything like that. Serviced twice a year despite not covering any miles in the last 10 years.

Dont forget to follow us on or . I'm trying to use it more regularly to post little updates of what we are up to :)

Remember you can buy any of the products we use from Shinearama. Links available below.

Wheels with Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner & Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover
Agitated with 1 brush for the wheel face and an EZ Detail Brush for the insides
Pre foam with Meguairs Hyper Wash then rinsed after 5 minutes. If you cant fit a foam bottle to your pressure washer then this Foam Gun is very good and works on mains pressure.
2 bucket shampoo with Meguairs Shampoo Plus and a Meguairs MF Wash Mit
Rinsed and dried
Clayed with Sonus Ultra Fine Detailing Clay with Meguairs Last Touch as lube
Stubborn tar removed with Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover

Onto the polishing and a new polish for me but mighty glad I had it!

Scholl S3 Gold on a Scholl yellow pad. Correction wise it cut through the same amount of swirls as 3 hits of Menzerna IP3.02 (so saved 2/3 of time) and finished down much much better than 3m FCP. Scholl only needed one hit of Menzerna 106FA to finish compared to 3M FCP needing 2 hits or more. Without this polish it would have taken much longer! (as if 33 hrs wasnt long enough already)

A few before and after shots...The I wont post them all as it will make for a LOOONG post but they can be seen in my portfolio on my website by clicking HERE

The paint was then protected with Blackfire paint sealant. Rubbers, plastics and tyres were dressed with my new favorite product Carpro PERL

Brilliant work there, Nathan.

Working on a car like that must be so much more rewarding than detailing a year old 911 where the owner is just too lazy to look after it.

Did you do the interior?

Working on modern 997s are rewarding for other financial reasons :) ... Its a passion / hobby.. but its also my job :) So i'll happily do any car.

The guys in the garage were asking if I was getting bored yet as every night I was the last one to finish and they were waiting for me so they could lock up (locked me in one night while they went to the pub lol). I was saying that because it was coming out so perfectly and you could see the fruits of my many hours of labour then i didn't mind and I was actually enjoying it. Its the jobs that take hours and there are still marks that are too deep to safely remove that get frustrating and a bit soul destroying.

Interior glass was thoroughly cleaned but the rest wasnt really bad so was just given a light wipe over... It was 7pm on friday and i'd already spent an extra day on it that I had originally planned. If I'd had another few hours I would have spent more time but tbh there wasn't as much improvement to be made there so I spent my time where it was needed.

Fantastic job again.

Every thread is great viewing.

What are the the EVO's trading for now?

Thanks.. as long as people like looking I'll keep posting.

Good Evo2's are around the £30k mark.

Very good Evo3's like this... the sky is the limit. The new owner didn't want to disclose the price but I know it was in the £55k-£65k range and indeed after it was sold it was still being bid on in an effort to get hold of it.

What a fantastic job, it looks better than the day it rolled out of the showroom!!

I would imagine this must be a very desirable example, thought it might of been in the region of £75k. Would look great in any collection.....

that's stunning.. Nathan if you can make my red E30 shine like that I'll have your children....

.... for a couple of hours while you're working on it :D
