Rated 97-100 Points by Robert Parker..
Which makes it Exceptional.
Rating: 97-100
Vintage:2006
Varietal:Syrah/Shiraz
Origin: Australia, South Australia, Barossa Valley PV
Tasting Note:Yet another blockbuster with the Amon-Ra label this 2006 vintage is an exceptional example of a precise yet full-flavoured, concentrated Shiraz from 100+ year old vines. This is an inky/blue/purple-coloured wine offering superb purity, its gorgeous perfume of coffee, blueberries, blackberries, camphor, liquorice, and pain grille which is followed by full-bodied richness and gorgeous depth as well as texture, the acidity is a touch high, but that is expected of a barrel sample at this stage of development. This fabulous effort is the latest example of Ben Glaetzer’s brilliant talents. It should drink well for 15-20+ years but is begging to be left alone for another couple of years at least. For a winery only established in 1995, and dedicated to hand-crafted, artisanally made wines, Ben Glaetzer has consistently been a revelation on the World stage of wine production where the quality has always remained truly splendid. The value of their wines is something else, had these wines come from the Rhone of Bordeaux regions; it would have a zero added to its price tag. Tasted April 2007 Rating 96-99
Independently Rated in the "Worlds Top five, 2006 Red Wines" available as at Oct 2007.
