P1050453.jpg

20 years worth of grime and grease cleaned using cotton swabs and degreaser and alot of patience

Vehicle was then foamed twice with a strong mix of degreaser and then washed twice to remove the build up of grime. After washing the car I then spent a good time claying the car using Sonus Grey as paintwork was rough like sand paper.

glad you approve GuyS:D thanks for the kind words:tu

That's particularly useful as I'm about to purchase a an 89 500SL in red.:yeah:

That is a major transformation....looks like its been sitting in a field for the last 20 years.

Not sure I like leather treatment....always makes me nervous with paint build up in the cracks etc.

Being white, itll be hard to see the difference. I use Swissvax glacier on mine. Makes bugger all shine, but at least you can feel it ;)

Wow, excellent detail!

As has been said, these threads get boring after a while with new cars, but enjoyed reading this! :tu

Are those late 80's Merc's Acrylic Paint ? Is that why they oxyidise so easily

Allan

Mercedes R107s were painted in a direct gloss 2K paint (non metalic colours) that has no UV protection
and its the UV light that destroys the red pigment causing that faded look thats why all modern non metalic colours are also coated with a UV resistant clear coat

no not acrylic...the paint on this was a single stage ( no laquar/clearcoat) to protect from UV so thats why you get oxidation easily

Liquid Leather is flexible so it doesnt crack... apply several thin coats opposed to 1-2 heavy coats

Wow! Excellent results.

That's more of a restoration than a detail!
Thanks:tu

It's a 93/94 - honestly NOT worth it mate.
Although I'm going to have a stab at it now that I *think* I've found somewhere indoors to set up the kit that's kindly been lent to me.
any car is worth it;)

Ah, it's just to get rid of some scratches but I know 100% that I'll see a difference as you can see more depth in the reflections too (where I tested it originally).
